Authentic 1862 Dated Atlanta, Georgia Railroad Note with "THE GENERAL" Image
Click on an image to enlarge
This is one of my favorite Civil War pieces of Money. It is the 50 cent bank note issued by the Western & Atlantic Railroad in Atlanta, Georgia and is dated March 15th 1862. What is special about this note design is that at the center of the top it has the likeness of the most famous of all Civil War trains "THE GENERAL". That's right it's the famous train from the chase. It is hand signed and numbers as is correct for this style of note. It measures 4-7/8ths inches by 2-1/4ths inches in overall size. You can see the small punch dots in the paper. This is where the note was taken out of circulation by the bank. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
