SHOULDER STOCK CUT! Colt .36 Caliber "Navy" Revolver from 1862
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a scarce version of a frequently encountered gun! It is the famous model 1851 Colt revolver known as the "Navy" model revolver. What is special about this gun is that it is one of the ones that were cut on the frame to be used with a shoulder stock so it could be shot like a carbine. They are easily distinguished by the four screws on the frame instead of the standard three screws. Also by the engaging slots that are cut out on the recoil shield. This one is in very attractive condition. It has a pretty and mostly smooth plum surface all over with some faint traces of the original factory finish under the patina. It has production numbers of 128,532 except for the cylinder, wedge and loading lever are which is an original with another number. These serial numbers let us know that the gun would have been manufactured toward the early part of the year of 1862. The top of the barrel has the vividly clear one line maker's mark that reads "ADDRESS SAMl COLT NEW-YORK CITY U.S. AMERICA". These guns were manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut with the sale office being located in New York City. The side of the frame and the cylinder has the clear "COLTS PATENT" stamp still visible. The cylinder of this gun has about 70% of the original navy battle scene still visible but it is light. The action works on all positions. The backstrap and triggerguard are in excellent shape and they each have a beautiful golden honey tone to the brass with a nice amount of the original factory silver was in the protected areas. On the handle of the gun it has the original 1-piece walnut wood grips. They display superbly as you can see and they have a nice amount of the original factory varnish finish. This is a tough to find version and a great looking weapon from all angles and deserves a good home.
