Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very scarce version of military powder flask. This is the one that was designed for the United States Navy. It is referred to by collectors as the "fouled anchor" design. Each side of the flask body has the stamped design of the anchor with the rope wrapped around it. Below the anchor. It has the proud and bold "U.S.N." lettering for United States Navy. On the one side of the flask body as well, as on the top of the spout, you can see the inspectors initials of "J.S.P." these are the initials of Lt. James Sheddon Palmer, who approved the flask for military service from 1827 until 1867. On the top of the flask it has the 1846 production date as well as the "ADAMS" maker marking. The records show that these were contracted by the US government from July to December 1845 for a total of 1,200 flasks. This one is in attractive untouched condition all the way around with a gorgeous patina. The lever on the top still works and it still has a fine spring action. Don't miss your opportunity to own a scarce United States Navy powder flask.
