1854 Dated Presidential Land Grant Under President Franklin Pierce

Here is an original land grant given for land from a sale in Shawneetown, Illinois. This was granting 40 acres and was granting William Wesley Teachner of White County, Illinois 40 acres in " the North East Quarter of ... west quarter, of section twenty three in township six south of range nine. East...". The document measures 15-3/4ths inches by 9-3/4ths inches in size. It is beautiful and has the pre-printed paper with the blanks filled in using fine brown ink. In the lower left hand corner, it has the applied great seal. In the lower right hand corner, it has the secretarial signed signature of President Franklin Pierce. One thing that is neat about this is that it is secretarially signed by his Assistant Secretary. Some of these land grants were signed by the President but most were signed for him by a secretary like this one. The document is accompanied by a modern xerox image of President Pierce. This is a great document from the Pierce administration.
