Well Marked Original 1864 Dated Civil War Cavalry Saber by Mansfield & Lamb

This is an original Civil War cavalry saber. This is the model 1860 pattern that was the most carried style during the Civil War. This one has a full-length blade with a nice gray color to the steel. At the base of the front of the blade it has the clear production date of 1864 along with the "US" mark and the inspector initials of "C.E.W.". The 1864 is present and very clear as you can see in the images. This is the inspector initials of Charles E. Wilson who inspected weapons for the U.S. Government. On the back of the blade is the remnants of the maker's mark of the Mansfield & Lamb Company of Forrestdale, Rhode Island. Mansfield & Lamb was one of the premier makers of Civil War cavalry saber and as you can see they made a quality product. The guard and pommel cap have a great attic copper color to the brass. On the side of the pommel cap, it has the matching and correct "C.E.W." inspector initials. The original grip is intact as is the original double strand brass wire and it has a beautiful look. The sword is accompanied by a nice original metal scabbard. Both of the mounts are present as well as the original throat and drag and they are in nice shape.
