This is a wonderful looking piece! This is an original Civil War soldier's hat. It is the version known to collectors as the "kepi" style cap. It has the tall design. This one has a very pleasing color to the blue cloth with a pretty tone. It has some light wear from the years that gives the piece a lot of character. It has the original tarred brim and tarred leather chin strap intact and complete. The chin strap has the sliding leather adjuster present as well as both of the eagle buttons on the side. The strap has some losses to the leather and has been pinned back in place and displays quite well now as you see. The buttons are the correct Civil War eagle buttons with the "I" in the center that let us know that it was worn by an infantry officer. The inside of the hat is also in nice shape. It has the correct original leather sweat band present. The linen lining is mostly present except what little bits were lost from service wear. The cloth and lining is still nice and pliable after all of these years. This is a very pleasing looking cap that has the look and any collector would be proud to have.
