Here is a wonderful piece of early American history. This is an original land-grant by President James Monroe in 1818. It is dated from Washington on August 24th 1818. This is one of the land grants that was given to a man named William B. Whitesides. It states that he was given the land in Madison County, Illinois. He was buying the land with the technical location listed. The U.S. Land Office has the records and it shows that it neat Collinsville if I read it correctly. In the lower right hand side of the document it has the notation that it was authorized for President James Monroe by the commissioner of the Land Office. It is accompanied by a modern Xerox of President Monroe. The document measures approximately 16 inches by 10 inches overall size and is held in an acid free holder. As you can see, it display well with the age around the edges. This is a great piece of early Presidential history.
