Here is an original socket bayonet for the "trapdoor" Springfield rifle. They look almost identical to the Civil War socket bayonets except they have a smaller socket. This is to fit the smaller bore size of the trapdoor rifle design. The metal of the bayonet has an nice untouched appearance with ta dark color. The bridge of the socket has an old cut as you see in the images. At the base of the full-length blade it was made without the US stamping. On the socket it has the original lock ring intact with the screw being a modern made replacement. This is a very nice display piece that is priced very affordably.
