Cincinnati Style Made Tinspout Canteen With Jean Cloth Cover Intact
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original Civil War soldier's canteen with cover and strap remaining. This is the classic smooth side pattern that was carried by soldiers on both sides of the Civil War. This is the pattern that has the tin spout at the top and this one is in fine shape. It has all three of the original loops straps present and complete around the sides of the canteen. This pattern is like the ones made in Cincinnati, Ohio by a few makers. There are several small variations shown in the O'Donnell canteen book on pages 190 to 198. The canteen still retains a very fine amount of the original brown jean cloth cover which is a nice touch as most of the time the cover is completely missing. This is a solid original Civil War canteen with the cover remaining and it displays well. It will make a wonderful display piece for your relic room.
