Edged Weapons
Original Civil War Inspector Marked .58 Springfield Rifle Socket Bayonet
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a good looking non-excavated socket bayonet for the Civil War Springfield military .58 caliber rifle. This one has a full-length blade and is one of the ones that were made without the "US" stamp at the base of the blade. The Socket is also in fine shape and it has the original lockring present with the original screw intact. This pattern was designed to fit the U.S. military rifles of the 1855, 1861 and 1863 patterns by Springfield or the muskets made by the contract makers either one. It has an attractive darker tone with a surface that will look fine on many of the guns that are out there. The bayonet is accompanied by a nice and original leather and brass scabbard. On the belt loop at the top it is the style that was attached using the 2 rivets. This is generally a sign of being earlier in the Civil War production. On the bottom of the scabbard it has the original scabbard tip intact as well as the brass finial. This bayonet and scabbard will be a solid addition to your gun or just for display by itself.
