This is a great looking piece of history from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic or G.A.R. was the organization made up of Union Survivors of the Civil War. They held reunion and erected monuments to the men that fought for the north during the Civil War. This medal was to commemorate the G.A.R. members in Indiana. The top bar has the "DELEGATE" in the center so we know it was worn by a soldier. The medallion has the markings on the back the designation that lets us know it would have proudly been worn by a soldier from the Department of New York in the G.A.R with the front having the image of Niagara Falls. The original pin is on the reverse of the top bar. The ribbon displays well with light wear. This is an excellent medal for any collection.
