3 Non-Excavated European Style Civil War Cannon Friction Primers with Container
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original non-excavated Civil War era cannon friction primer. These were inserted into the vent hole of the cannon to cause the spark that set off the powder charge and the cannon to fire. The brass tube portion is about 2 inches long. It has an original circular loop at the top that is original to the piece. This one is non-excavated and beautiful condition as you can see. This is the style that was imported from England and is referred to by collectors as the Enfield pattern friction primer and some people say they are for the Armstrong pattern cannon. You get all three of the primers as well as the tin that I got them in. There is some of the original paper label remaining on the outside of the tin. This is a cool and still affordable Civil War era artillery relic.
