This is an original image case that was designed to hold a pair of images. These are the style case that are made of a thermoplastic material that is better known as a "Gutta Percha" case. They are high quality cases that held the best images of the Civil War era. It is the version that will hold the tintype or ambrotype style image as well as a Daguerreotype. It has two images in there right now that could be changed out if you want to put your images inside. One of the images, shows a lady holding a photographic case in her hand. This is the size that is known to collectors as the sixth plate size. It measures about 2.75 inches by 3.25 inches in overall size. On the sides of the case it has the design that is known as case #510, 'Scroll,' design case in the wonderful 1988 copy-written book entitled Union Cases; A Collector's Guide to the Art of America's First Plastics by Krainik, Krainik, and Walvoord. This is a very pleasing looking original Civil War image case that just needs your image.
