This is a scarce little gun and we know who carried it! This is the rare small size revolver that was made by Bliss & Goodyear of New Haven, Connecticut. These were all made in 1860 and they only produced 3,000 of them. This one is is serial no. 761. It fires six shot of .28 caliber from the full-length 3-inch octagonal barrel with the original fixed front brass sight. Along the top of the barrel it has the majority of the "BLISS & GOODYEAR - NEW HAVEN, CONN." maker marking. The barrel still retains a fine amount of the factory blued finish. It was designed with the case-hardened hammer and spur trigger. On the handle of the gun it has the original 2-piece walnut wood grip panels. What makes this one extra special is that the iron backstrap is inscribed "CAPT. A.D. HOPKINS". According to the records, A. Dwight Hopkins enlisted on September 2nd 1862 in the 23rd Connecticut Infantry. He served until August 9th 1864. He was captured and held as a Prisoner of War on June 24th 1863 at Bayou Boeuf, Louisiana and was released on Just 22nd 1864. The gun is contained in a more modern wood display case with blue felt lining, flask, bullet mold and cap tin.
