This is a wonderful looking piece! It is an original and rare Confederate pewter style C.S.A. belt buckle. This is the classic style buckle that was produced in Rome, Georgia by the Noble Brothers Foundry. This is the version that is illustrated on page #67 of the Confederate belt buckle book by Steve Mullinax. It has the C.S. A. lettering on the face which is nice and clear. Because these are made of pewter they often break. This one is in exceptional condition all the way around and is in beautiful non-excavated condition. On the reverse of the buckle it has all three of the iron wire style attachment loops intact. You see these occasionally in excavated condition but you very rarely see them in non-excavated condition, and this one is in wonderful condition. This buckle has spent the last several years in the collection of my friend and country music legend Hank Williams, Jr. This belt and buckle will fit in nicely with any museum quality collection.
