Gorgeous Civil War Cavalry Officer's Saber with Beautiful Etched Blade
Click on an image to enlarge
This one is a knockout! This is an original Civil War cavalry saber. This is the ornate style that was designed to be carried by an officer. It is more ornate than the standard enlistedman's saber. It has the full-length blade that measures 34-3/4ths inches. Each side of the blade has the beautiful factory etching. On the front side of the blade, it has the multiple panoplies of arms with the floral and geometric work. In the center, it has the Union eagle with the upturned wings. Above the eagle it has the national motto of "E PLURIBUS UNUM" which is Latin and translates as "OF ONE, MANY". On the back of the blade, it has the richly decorated military designs with the large "U.S." in the center. The handle of the sword has the original wooden core intact and it is covered beautifully with the sharkskin wrap. The wire itself is the fine quality spring wire that is twisted and is flanked on each side by a single strand of brass wire. The brass of the handguard and pommel cap each have the beautiful bright tone. Each piece has the floral pattern that lets us know it it was for an officer and not enlisted. The sword is accompanied by the original scabbard that is made by steel and brass. The steel body has a gorgeous deep gray tone which looks beautiful beside the bright brass of the mounts, rings, throat and drag. This one displays brightly and beautifully. It will look great on your wall!
